Checking Your Windshield Washer Fluid

*VERY EASY*

Check the your windshield washer system every month as follows:

  1. Park the vehicle on level ground with the engine OFF, the parking brake engaged, and the transmission in PARK (for automatic) or REVERSE (for manual). Raise the hood.
  2. Identify the windshield washer fluid reservoir using your owner's manual if necessary. Windshield washer fluid reservoirs are clear plastic and the fluid is blue.
  3. View the fluid level. The reservoir should be full; use a funnel to add fluid when necessary. Make sure the funnel is clean so dirt does not enter the washer system and clog the washer fluid jets.
  4. Make sure the washer fluid hose is connected to the washer pump. If the hose has defects, replace it.
  5. Work the washer. If the washer jets are plugged, unclog them with a pin or fine wire. Flush the system with clean water if necessary.
